Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVR)

Potential complications

  • Bleeding or pseuodaneurysm at the access site.

    Percutaneous or surgical repair is the treatment

  • Stroke from debris as the catheter negotiates the arch or upon valve deployment.

    Occasionally, thrombectomy with the assistance of a neurointerventionalist is indicated.

  • After deployement the aortic root can rupture or the coronary arteries can be obstructed.

    Pericardial drainage or emergency surgery can be performed in certain cases. Coronary obstruction can be treated by rescue stent deployment in certain cases.

  • Infection

    Antibiotics or surgical explantation may be necessary

  • Heart block after valve deployment can occur.

    A pacemaker can be implanted temporarily or permanently.
